Workshop Wrap Up

Two weeks ago we ran the first Crescendo Music Workshop for 2012. The Resources for the Primary Music Classroom workshop was entertaining, resourceful and great fun.

Over 50 of us gathered at the Arana Leagues Club bright and early on Saturday morning and listened while Andrew Lange showed us all how to use an Interactive White Board. Then Nathan Cahill wowed us with his Ukulele skills and demonstrated how to use a webcam to teach your class the Ukulele. 

 

Debbie O'Shea showed us all her favourite puppets, toys, games and songs that make your music room fun and entertaining for your kids. We sang songs and played games. A great day was had by all!

Twilight Talk 1: Thoughts on Older Beginners

In 2012 KMEIA introduces the Twilight Talks series, to provide a forum for professional dialogue surrounding matters that we face each day in our schools. 

The first of our Twilight Talks focuses on the issues surrounding the Older Beginners Sequence and will raise questions for open discussion including:

•  How do you engage students of this age group whilst retaining the integrity of your sequential and developmental program?

•  What are your methods and strategies for dealing with intake years?

•  How ‘beginner’ are our older beginners? 

Come and engage with like-minded people in professional dialogue relating to the issues we face each day in our schools.   Create and strengthen your network of music educators whilst you discuss, share and listen to fresh ideas for repertoire, content ways to enrich your students’ musical experiences.

Date: Thursday, 23 February

Time: 6pm-7:30pm

Cost: Nil cost for the talk, pay for your own dinner.

Venue: Level 2, Creative Learning Centre, Brisbane Girls Grammar (entry via main car park off Gregory Terrace)  

Continue your discussions afterwards and join us for a casual dinner at Baan Thai, 1/448 Boundary St, Spring Hill.

Suggestions from the Literacy and Numeracy Workshop

Suggestions from participants at the Literacy and Numeracy through Music workshop run in 2011, has just been uploaded to the Crescendo Website. This document is packed full of great ideas from real teachers so you know they work.

I hope you had a Merry Christmas! 

I do love this time of year but I have a great deal of trouble switching off and relaxing. I don’t know if it is a side effect from being passionate and committed to my work; the natural result of attempting to be a great teacher, a help and support to other teachers, a good mother, a wonderful wife, a successful home manager (I so hate housework), an awesome cook, a successful business woman; or simply an ever increasing mental flaw! 

Any advice welcome!!!!!
